Low-Maintenance Routine for Busy People
Most “low-maintenance” routines still ask for a lot. More washing.More styling.More time you probably don’t have. And if you’re a mom, teacher, nurse, or just busy, you’re not trying to restart your hair every day. So instead of doing more, this routine works because it does less. Why doing less actually works Washing your hair every day can make things harder, not easier. It dries out your scalp, oil comes back faster, and suddenly you’re stuck in a cycle of constantly fixing your hair. The goal isn’t to keep starting over. It’s to keep your hair going. What I actually do This is the routine I stick to and the one that actually fits into real life. Once a week, I resetI go in with Clean Sweep to break up buildup, then shampoo and condition like normal. After I style, I prepAs soon as my hair is dry, I apply dry shampoo. Not later, right away. The rest of the week, I maintainI add a little more as needed and keep it moving. No overthinking. No full reset. Why this feels easier You’re not reacting to your hair anymore. You’re not: squeezing in wash days restyling from scratch or trying to fix oil once it shows up You’re staying ahead of it, and that’s what makes the biggest difference. The one shift that changes everything Use dry shampoo on clean hair. That’s it. It helps absorb oil before it starts, so your style lasts longer without extra effort. What this looks like day-to-day More good hair days in between washes.Less time spent in front of the mirror.A routine that actually fits into your life. And when your products are made to extend your hair, not just cover it up, it all works a lot better. – KT
Learn moreLess Washing, More Living
Summer is not the time I want to be washing and restyling my hair every other day. With busy workdays, time outside, and actually wanting to enjoy summer, I’m not interested in starting from scratch again and again. And honestly, your hair doesn’t need that either. Washing too often can strip your scalp, making your hair get greasy even faster. So instead of getting stuck in that cycle, I switched up my routine. Extend, don’t restart I wash my hair once a week. Starting with a scalp cleanser to remove buildup, then shampoo and conditioner. Once it’s dry, I go in with dry shampoo right away. Beat the grease, not make up for it later. Each day, I add a little more dry shampoo as needed to keep things fresh. Why I stick to it Because it actually fits into real life. Less time washing and drying. More time outside. More “throw it up and go” days that still feel put together. More time living. The payoff When your routine is this simple, everything else just feels easier. And when you have a dry shampoo designed to extend your style, that’s less washing, and more living. – KT
Learn moreA Little Better Than We Found It
There’s a lot of conversation around sustainability this time of year. And don’t get me wrong, it matters. Awareness matters. Education matters. But at some point, you just have to… do something. So we did. Recently, our team spent a sunny afternoon picking up trash along the Chippewa River trail behind The Eclective on Water Street in Eau Claire. It’s a beautiful spot, but step off the path and you’ll notice the cans, bottles, and plastic cups left behind after busy weekends. What also stuck with me were the people passing by. Almost everyone said thank you. Not in a big, dramatic way. Just a quick “thank you” as they walked past. And it made me realize something simple: People notice. Even small efforts don’t go unseen. At Good Ass Hair Day, we talk a lot about sustainability. Refilling instead of replacing. Using less. Being more intentional about what we’re buying and what we’re throwing away. But this was a reminder that sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated. It can look like: buy a refill pouch instead of buying something new use what you already have or picking up a piece of trash that isn’t yours None of it is groundbreaking. But all of it adds up. We didn’t do anything revolutionary that day. We just showed up, spent an hour outside, and left the trail a little better than we found it. And honestly, that’s enough. Let this be your reminder: it doesn’t have to be perfect to matter. Just start somewhere.
Learn moreLess Waste, More Purpose 🧡
There’s a side of running a product-based business that people don’t really talk about: what happens to the “not quite right” products. The returns. The slightly dented bottles. The batches didn’t come out exactly how we planned. The pumps that just won’t cooperate. A lot of brands won’t say it out loud, but the reality is… a lot of that ends up in the trash. And that’s never sat right with me. At Good Ass Hair Day, we’ve always believed that “good” shouldn’t stop at the product itself. It should extend to how we operate, how we make decisions, and what we do when things aren’t perfect. Because here’s the thing, “imperfect” doesn’t mean unusable. A bottle with a small cosmetic flaw still works. An unopened return is still valuable.A product that didn’t meet our internal standards could still make someone’s day. So instead of tossing those items, we chose early on to donate them. Over the past couple of years, we’ve been able to send products to local shelters, community organizations, and even areas impacted by natural disasters. Places where something as simple as dry shampoo isn’t just a “nice to have”, it’s something that helps people feel clean, confident, and a little more like themselves during tough moments. Because when access to a full shower isn’t always guaranteed, something small can go a long way. And to be honest, this isn’t something we’ve talked about much. Not because we’re trying to hide it, but because it never felt like something to “market.” It just felt like the right thing to do. But I also think it’s important to be transparent about what brands are doing behind the scenes, especially when it comes to waste. Sustainability isn’t just about refill pouches and ingredient lists (although those matter too). It’s also about what happens to the products that don’t get sold. We’re not perfect. We’re still learning, still growing, still figuring things out as we go. But one thing we’re really proud of is this:We don’t believe in throwing away something that could still serve a purpose. If there’s an opportunity to give it a second life, we’re taking it. - Katelynn
Learn moreThe Evolution of Our Refill Bags
The Evolution of Our Refill Bags (aka: how we got here, and why it matters) When we first launched Good Ass Hair Day, our goal was simple:Create a dry shampoo that works better and wastes less. The refill system was always part of that vision. But like anything worth doing… it took a few rounds to get it right. Here’s the real story of how our refill bags have evolved over time 👇 The Beginning (2023) Our very first refill bags were… humble. They did the job. They let you refill instead of rebuy. They helped reduce waste right from the start. But they weren’t perfect. At the time, we were focused on function over form, getting a refill system out into the world that actually made sense for your routine. And it worked. You loved the idea, and we knew we were onto something. The “We’re Learning” Phase As more orders rolled in, we started noticing what could be better. Things like: How the bags poured How they held up during shipping How they felt in your hands We changed manufacturers. We tested new materials. We made small tweaks that (honestly) made a big difference. This phase wasn’t flashy, but it was important. It’s where we started turning a good idea into a better product. The Not-So-Perfect Moment Okay… quick mention because we have to. At one point, some refill bags didn’t hold up as they should have. Not ideal. Not our favorite era. But it pushed us to take quality, materials, and durability even more seriously, which ultimately led us to where we are now. (And yes, we learned a lot.) The Glow Up (2025) Fast forward to now, and this is where things finally clicked. Our current refill bags are: Matte (goodbye shiny chaos) More durable for shipping + storage Easier to handle and pour More aligned with the brand visually They’re cleaner. Simpler. Better. Not just for aesthetics, but for how they function in your everyday routine. Why It Matters This wasn’t just a packaging upgrade. It’s part of a bigger shift:👉 buying once and refilling instead of constantly replacing👉 using less product, more intentionally👉 building a routine that actually works long-term One refill pouch = up to 1.5 more bottles of dry shampoo. That’s fewer containers, less waste, and a system that’s designed to last. What’s Next If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that nothing is ever really “done.” We’re always testing.Always improving.Always asking how we can make things work better for you. Because the goal was never just to make a dry shampoo. It was to make a better way to use it. If you’ve been here since the early refill days,You already know how far we’ve come. And if you’re new here? You’re catching us at a really good time 🤭
Learn moreOily Roots, Dry Ends? Here’s What’s Really Going On
Hydration Isn’t the Problem. Imbalance Is. If your hair feels oily and dry at the same time…You’re not alone. But it’s usually not a product problem,it’s an imbalance problem. Hydration and oil control aren’t opposites. They’re meant to work together. Moisture vs. Buildup: What Your Hair Actually Needs A lot of us were taught: oily = wash more dry = add heavier products But that cycle often makes things worse. Buildup → scalp feels heavy, greasy, and off. Over-washing → scalp gets stripped → produces more oil. So you end up stuck in a loop. The goal isn’t more washing or heavier products,it’s getting your scalp back to a neutral state. Why Ingredients Matter Your ingredients determine whether your routine is helping or just covering things up. We focus on: gentle, functional ingredients simple formulas performance without buildup Because when your ingredients work with your scalp, everything else gets easier. Lightweight Hydration (Yes, It Exists) Hydration doesn’t have to feel heavy. Lightweight hydration =moisture without buildup, weight, or residue. Think soft, fresh, manageable hair, not coated or weighed down. That’s exactly why we made our Rootin’ For You Shampoo + Conditioner Sticks,to give your hair what it needs, without overdoing it. No heavy layers. No unnecessary buildup.Just clean, balanced hydration that actually works with your hair. Learn Ingredients, Don’t Fear Them You don’t need to memorize labels, but you should feel confident in what you’re using. Once you understand what ingredients do,you stop guessing and start choosing better. Balance > overcorrectingUnderstanding > avoiding And that’s what actually leads to better hair days.
Learn moreThe Spring Break Hair Routine That Fits in Your Carry-On
Spring break trips are exciting. Packing for them? Not always. Between TSA liquid rules, tiny travel bottles, and the fear of something exploding in your suitcase, hair products can quickly become the most annoying thing to pack. — I was on a flight to Mexico in January 2024 when I realized I forgot to pack shampoo and conditioner. My only option? The tiny hotel bottles. And if I’m being honest, I was already over the whole routine of transferring liquids into travel containers, stuffing them into a plastic bag, and hoping they don’t explode in my suitcase. So at 30,000 feet, I started thinking: shampoo bar… but better. Let’s put it in a deodorant-style container.Make it easy to travel with, easy to use, and not some slimy, disintegrating lump sitting on the shower shelf. That idea eventually turned into our Shampoo and Conditioner Sticks. Because we’re big fans of simple routines and products that actually make traveling easier. The GAHD Travel Routine Wherever you’re headed this spring break, remember: you don’t need to pack everything but the bathroom sink. A simple routine goes a long way. Our Shampoo and Conditioner Sticks are made with clean, all-natural ingredients and designed for travel. They’re leak-proof, TSA-friendly, and easy to throw in your bag. Add in dry shampoo to refresh your roots between beach days, flights, and late nights. That’s it. Three hair products to get you through your trip.Easy, lightweight, and carry-on friendly. One Travel Hair Tip Apply dry shampoo before your hair gets greasy, especially on travel days. It helps keep your roots fresh longer so you can spend less time worrying about your hair and more time enjoying your trip. Because the best spring break routines are the ones that keep things simple, flexible, and ready for wherever the day takes you.
Learn moreThree Years In, And We’re Just Getting Started
Three years. That feels wild to type. Good Ass Hair Day started as a basement idea. A simple goal: make hair care easier, cleaner, and something you actually feel good about using. No overcomplicating. No unnecessary junk. Just products that fit into real life. What I didn’t expect? The way this would grow. Over the last three years, GAHD has gone from packing orders at my kitchen table to sitting on shelves across the country. From explaining what “non-aerosol dry shampoo” even means… to hearing customers walk into stores and ask for it by name. That still gets me. But the biggest growth hasn’t just been in sales, new scents, or new retailers. It’s been in the people. GAHD is no longer just me in a basement with a dream. It’s a team. It’s retailers who believed in us early. It’s affiliates who hype us up. It’s customers who send feedback, ideas, DMs, and honest reviews. It’s all of you. We’re evolving, but we’re not drifting. We’re still rooted in what built this brand:Clean ingredients.Refill options.Less waste.Simple routines.Products that actually work. As we grow, those values grow with us. Sustainability isn’t a buzzword here. It’s part of every decision we make. From refill pouches to how we package to what we formulate next. And speaking of what’s next… We’re introducing a new applicator (yes, alongside the OG poofer, don’t worry, she’s not going anywhere). It’s another way to apply your dry shampoo, depending on your vibe, hair, and routine. Because growth for us isn’t about replacing what works, it’s about giving you options. More tools.More flexibility.Same formula you love. That’s the energy we’re carrying into year four. We’re building something bigger than one person, but we’re keeping the same heartbeat. Community first. Transparency always. Hair that feels good without the junk. So whether you’ve been here since the basement days or just found us last week, thank you. Truly. We’re just getting started. And if you ever have questions about the new applicator, our formulas, refills, or anything at all, shoot us a DM. We’re always on the other side. Here’s to the next chapter. Have a Good Ass Day. 💛
Learn moreGrowing Together
When I think about another year of Good Ass Hair Day, I don’t think about numbers. I think about you. You’ve helped us improve pumps. You’ve influenced new scents (hi, Bergamot Lavender 👀).You’ve shaped packaging, instructions, and how we show up every single day.
